In orthodontic treatment when the bite is deep it restricts the placement of both upper and lower brackets simultaneously, which delays treatment. Bite-Builders are bonded to the lingual surface of the upper centrals which immediately props open the bite to facilitate bonding of the lower brackets. When the bite is open it eliminates bracket failure due to occlusal interference. The placement of Bite-Builders also frees up the posterior teeth which in turn allows the teeth to align more quickly. Bite-Builders placement allows for lower arch growth because the lower arch is no longer impeded by the upper jaw and Class II correction can occur.
In the less common Class III (underbite) cases, Bite-Builders can be flipped and bonded to the lower centrals. This would allow bonding of the upper brackets.
